The current research question I have in mind is "what kind of student is more likely to experience social anxiety and why?" and "what impact(s) does a lack of friends and support groups have on students college experiences and life after college?"

I wonder if "social isolation" is also a useful term, as social anxiety can often lead to that. Chapter 4 of Armstrong and Hamilton's book might be useful. And I frequently see articles online about the dangers of social isolation, which is increasing in this internet age -- see here for example:
