Much more than just shyness: the impact of social anxiety disorder on educational performance across the lifespan.
1. “Social anxiety disorder (SAD) has been linked to academic underachievement".
2. "Compared to unexposed individuals, individuals diagnosed with SAD were less likely to pass all subjects in the last year of compulsory education and less likely to be eligible for a vocational or academic programme in upper secondary education, finish upper secondary education, start a university degree, obtain a university degree, and finish postgraduate education”.
This study is significant to my research because it takes into account a students academic performance in relation to social isolation and social isolation disorders such as social anxiety disorder. The study reinforced my standpoint that people with SAD suffer from large amounts of stress which effects their academic performances for the worse.
